Course Overview: Web Development 1 (Full-time NMPD Program, SAIT)
As explained in yesterday's entry, I have decided to use this blog to publish the professional web developer guide I have written for the NMPD program over the last six years. The first few entries will be a course overview: not terribly relevant for the general public, but vital for my students. More substantial material will follow very shortly.
- Duration:
- 1 three-hour class per week for 14 weeks
- Prerequisite:
- Familiarity with Windows XP or Apple OS X operating system
- Description
- This course provides learners with the skills to create and edit accessible, valid XHTML documents, insert images, body copy and hyperlinks, style the results with CSS, and upload the completed document to a web server. XHTML is the foundation for marking up documents on the web and a thorough understanding of the language is required to add components such as JavaScript, PHP, and multimedia. By the end of the class learners will have the ability to make a web page that includes photographic and illustrative content.
- Evaluated Components
-
- Four in-class quizzes (few multi-choice options, closed-book), two worth 5% each, two worth 10% each, for a total of 30%
- One homework exercise, worth 10%
- Two in-class exercises (open book), worth 20% each, for a total of 40%
- Two professionalism marks, worth 10% each, for a total of 20%. Professionalism grades are given mid-way through the semester and at the end of the semester. Half of each professionalism mark is attendance (detailed below) and half is attitude (your participation in the class and interaction with your instructor).
