Inevitably a few students in my full-time NMPD Web Communications classes at SAIT become somewhat overwhelmed with the material, most especially in the 1st year of classes.
SAIT seeks to ease this process through the Peer Assistance and Leadership program, offering part-time positions for students to tutor others. The only requirement is a grade of B+ in the course being tutored, and instructor approval. The program is an excellent opportunity for those who have survived into the 2nd year to become paid tutors for 1st year students.
Interest in the program from 1st year students is growing, but historically it has gained relatively little involvement from 2nd years (which, to be fair, may be due to the fact that many of them feel they have more than enough work already). It’s also possible that students just aren’t aware of the application forms on the SAIT network, so I have also provided direct links to them here:
Request for a tutor [PDF]
Application to become a tutor [PDF]
I encourage 2nd year students who feel that they are up to the task to help others while helping themselves: I should also mention that the experience looks really good on a resume, and that there is nothing quite so effective as a means of fully understanding the material, and learning more about it, than the effort of teaching it.
Not my standard, Ling... but I do get thumbs-up/thumbs-down approval on the tutor. And yes, I am certain that your knowledge and generosity helped a few students pass the 4th semester. :-)
so we don't need the jQuery minimum length anymore:) cool!
